McMahon Funeral Directors were established in early 1977 by John McMahon who also managed a very successful Newsagents at the Market Sq., in Cavan Town.
A native of Ballinagh, John came to Cavan Town in 1964 to work as a Law Clerk in the very distinguished firm of M/S. Alfred Myles Smith & Co. Solicitors who practiced from their offices at Church St. Cavan Town. After a few years he became interested and involved in the world of Antique Furniture. This and other interests kept him fully occupied until he and his wife Helen purchased the very popular “FOSTERS” Newsagents on the Market Sq. in Cavan Town.
In 1977 they commenced the firm of McMahon Funeral Directors. We introduced the Art of embalming to the people of Cavan and surrounding areas in the year of 1978. This was a little known process in our area at that time and needed quite a lot of explaining whenever the process was thought necessary.
Since then we are lucky to have employed six fully qualified and professional embalmers to take care of our needs and thus give us the time to look after families. Our business continued to expand and in the year 1989 John and Helen bought a site at Farnham Road, Cavan, designed and built the first Funeral Home Facility in the County of Cavan., again being a first, this venture needed a lot of explaining about facilities and how it would help with the provision of a professional Funeral Business.
In 1995 John and Helen were joined in the business by their eldest son. Philip is well known to the people of Cavan and surrounding areas as he and his wife Caroline (nee Sheils) are the proprietors of McMahons Licensed premises and Café Bar on the Main St. in Cavan Town. Philip is fully experienced in all facets of the Funeral business and together with John and Helen we feel, make a good team.
We pride ourselves with professionalism and good practice, attention to every detail, full and meaningful discussion with the family and providing loads of time to get everything just right. We are full members of the Irish Association of Funeral Directors since the early eighties and have pledged our services to the guidelines prepared by that excellent body of professional people.
Thanks,
Funeral Home Cavan.
